Tabitha Jackson

Tabitha Jackson, now a freelance Film Executive,  was appointed Director of the Sundance Film Festival in February 2020, just as COVID-19 necessitated a complete re-imagining of the festival form. This presented expected challenges and unexpected opportunities which continue to inform her idea of what a festival can be.

As Director of the Documentary Film Program at Sundance Institute for 7 years (2013-2020) Jackson championed the cultural power of independent cinematic nonfiction and tried to support a more expansive and expeditionary set of makers and forms

Prior to joining Sundance she served as head of Arts and Performance at Channel 4 Television in London, and as executive producer on theatrical nonfiction projects at Film4. With almost 30 years in the field, first as an Emmy Award-winning maker and then as a commissioning executive and funder, she has been committed to the independent and alternative voice and continues to seek new forms of creative expression and meaning-making.
