Susan Wokoma

BAFTA Breakthrough British actress and writer Susan Wokoma is one of the most brilliant, and unique actors working today. Having already established a diverse and award-winning body of work in her short career, Susan has several exciting projects coming up which promise to firmly establish her as ‘one to watch’.

Susan is currently filming the second installment of Enola Holmes for Netflix. She will be reprising her role as Edith from the first film in 2020. The films are based on the Nancy Springer novel series of the same name and star Millie Bobbie Brown as the titular character Enola, the always ignored younger sister of her “genius” brothers Mycroft and Sherlock. Both Enola Holmes and the sequel are directed by Harry Bradbeer, written by Jack Thorne and produced by Legendary Picture, Netflix and Warner Brothers.

This summer, Susan filmed The Homeless World Cup, again for Netflix. Directed by Thea Sharrock, the film follows a team of homeless footballer who travel to Rome to compete in The Homeless World Cup. The film is inspired by the real event that takes place every year and brings more than 450 players from 40+ countries together with the aim to create a world without homelessness. The film was produced by Blueprint Pictures’ Graham Broadbent, Peter Czernin and Anita Overland.

Susan will star alongside Maxine Peake, Alison Steadman and Rakhee Thakrar in BBC One’s Rules Of The Game that was filmed in Spring 2021. This four-part thriller explores sexual politics in the workplace with Susan taking on the role of DI Eve Preston, a no-nonsense detective who investigates the company and its historic cases of misconduct.

At the beginning of this year, Susan filmed The Loneliest Boy In The World which is described as a modern fairy tale…with zombies. Susan stars alongside Ben Miller, Max Harwood and Evan Ross for this satire and celebration of family life, the American Dream and death.

Alongside filming the first Enola Holmes film in 2020, Susan also filmed the series Truth Seeker for Amazon Prime. Created by Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and Nat Saunders, this comedy series follows a group of amateur paranormal investigators who accidentally stumble upon a conspiracy of apocalyptic proportions. Susan stars alongside Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Malcolm Malcolm McDowell, Samson Kayo and Emily D’Arcy.

In 2019, Susan filmed Dark Money for BBC One, starring Babou Ceesay and Jill Halfpenny. Dark Money tells the fictional story of The Mensahs, an ordinary working class family from North London whose youngest son has recently finished filming a major Hollywood movie role, but the family’s world is shattered when their son reveals that he was abused whilst out in America by a renowned filmmaker. Written by Bafta-nominated writer of Damilola, Our Loved Boy, Levi David Addai and directed by Lewis Arnold.

In December 2018, Susan filmed a new comedy for Channel 4, Year of the Rabbit, starring alongside Freddie Fox and Matt Berry. Set at the end of the 1880s, this brand new series following Detective Inspector Rabbit (Berry) and his hapless partner (Fox). Susan plays the role of the lewd but insightful adoptive daughter of the chief of police, becoming the country’s first female officer.

In September 2018, Susan wrote and starred in Love the Sinner, directed by Jennifer Sheridan, a Sky Comedy short for Sky Arts. This brilliant short comedy showed the life of 11 year old Joanna trying to understand grief for the first time when she witnesses her mother’s (played by Susan) manic reaction to the death of Princess Diana, whilst trying to use the incident to get out of Sunday School. Susan has a fantastic cast with her on this project, including Whitney O’Nicholas, Yvette Boakye, Layo Christina and Daisy May Cooper.
