Nicholas Connor
Nicholas’ film work has screened at over 50 film festivals globally where he has personally won 37 awards with 64 nominations.
Aged 16, he wrote and directed hour-long drama ‘Northern Lights’ (2016) and was later awarded the Into Film ‘Ones to Watch’ Award 2017 by EON Productions (Presented by Barbara Broccoli and Charles Dance).
In 2017, he wrote & directed ‘Cotton Wool’ starring Leanne Best (Line of Duty), Crissy Rock (Ladybird Ladybird – Berlinale ‘Best Actress’), Kate Rutter (I, Daniel Blake, Peterloo), Gemma North (Peaky Blinders) & Max Vento (The A Word). The film won the ‘Special Jury Prize’ at the London Film Awards and Nicholas went on to win ‘Best Director’ at the European Independent Film Awards.
Cotton Wool has to this date, won 46 awards with 73 nominations and 28 official selections. The film went onto win 6 awards at the ‘New York Film Awards’, including Best Picture and a further 4 awards at the Global Independent Film Awards. Winning 5 awards at ‘LA Film Awards’ including ‘Best Picture’ as well as screening in the British Independent Film Festival (Empire Leicester Square). The film featured on BBC News Nationwide and received the ‘Humanity Award’ for Film at New Renaissance Film Festival (previously won by the Oscar-Winning ‘The Silent Child’).
ScreenCritix gave the film ★★★★★, calling Nicholas one of the ‘UK’s Hottest Prospects’. UK Film Review named ‘Cotton Wool’ the ‘Best Short Film of the Year’.
Nicholas has over 8 years of experience in film production, first shadowing Mark Cousins (The Story of Film) and Christopher Doyle (In The Mood for Love) on the set of ‘I am Belfast’ in 2014.
Having studied Directing at the ‘National Film and Television School BFI Academy’, Nicholas premiered his film ’The Narrator’ at the British Film Institute. The film led to him being awarded the Rising Star Award at Camarthen Bay Film Festival (BAFTA Qualifying).
Nicholas was awarded a ‘UK Inspirational Children and Young People’s Award’ for ‘Contributions to Arts and Culture’ as part of the ‘Music in the Mind’ event. In 2020, he joined the judging team at the New York Film Awards and Little Wing Film Festival (BIFA Qualifying).
Nicholas is a member of Directors UK and was selected for BFI NETWORK x BAFTA Crew in 2021.
