Claire Beswick

Claire began a cinema career as soon as leaving University.  First stop was ODEON Cinemas, where over the course of 10 years in the programming team she was responsible for the development and implementation of film booking strategies in over 120 multiplex venues.  Also during this time she oversaw the transition from 35mm to digital projection, embarking on new flexible digital programming opportunities. This included the introduction of Alternative Content – live events such as ballet and opera which had never before been seen in cinema venues.  She managed the tender process for the BFI IMAX, subsequently programming the IMAX screens and turned around the underperforming Irish estate.

In Jan 2015 Claire joined Curzon cinemas as their Head of Programming. A world away from ODEON, the Curzon group comprises cinemas, distribution and VOD and forms the UK’s first fully integrated independent film company across production, distribution and exhibition.  There, she oversaw the curation of all content – feature films, documentaries, live events and alternative content – in both the theatrical venues and on the digital platform.

At the end of 2016 she began on the biggest challenge to date; establishing a cinema chain of her own; The Living Room Cinema.  With the first location due to open Q3 2018, all of her experience to date is being drawn together to create a truly unique and quality cinema lifestyle experience with a targeted customer strategy.

Claire has also undertaken a number of consultancy projects; ranging from developing programming strategies for Independent cinemas to advising Independent producers and production companies on the commercial viability of projects and slates.  She is a regular contributor to industry panels and in 2010 was the first, and so far only, exhibitor to undertake the Inside Pictures programme.
