Ate de Jong

Ate
de Jong, born in a small provincial town at the Dutch-Belgian border
in 1953. Admitted to the Dutch Film Academy at the age of 17, he made
6 feature films in his homeland before he was 32. Ate de Jong moved
to Los Angeles in 1986 and started directing an episode of Miami Vice (guest stars James Brown and Chris Rock) before directing Highway To Hell (with Ben Stiller), and Drop Dead Fred (starring Rik Mayall,
Phoebe Cates, Carrie Fisher). He moved to London in 1993 and made
several films in Germany and South Africa, and as a UK co-production
All Men Are Mortal – based on the novel by Simone the Beauvoir
(starring Steven Rea and Irene Jacob), and Fogbound (with Luke Perry
and Ben Daniels), and also (co) produced a number of feature films
such as The Discovery Of Heaven (starring Stephen Fry), and Enigma (with Kate Winslet). Ate de Jong completed last year The Blitz, winner
of several audience awards in the USA, and in 2013 the UK independent
feature Deadly Virtues: Love. Honour. Obey (soon to be released).
Apart from directing and producing Ate de Jong wrote many articles
and columns about film. He was the senior executive at the Dutch
FilmFund for several years, and interim director of The Binger
Filmlab.
