The long list was chosen by BIFA’s voters through a process of viewing and discussion followed by an online vote. Andrew Braidford, founder of The BWH Agency, chaired the sub-group charged with making the selections in this category. He commented: “Our category was filled with a selection of fierce, eclectic and fascinating performances in a number of genres, which made our job extremely difficult. We feel the list is packed with a diverse and hugely talented group of actors who, having been given the opportunity, all shone within thought-provoking and high-quality British films”.
The final five nominations will be decided through another round of voting and will be announced on 1 November.
The long lists in the following categories will be released over the next week on www.bifa.film and on Twitter (@bifa_film) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/BIFA.Film): Best British Short on Monday 17 October; The Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director, Debut Screenwriter and Breakthrough Producer on Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 October.
