JULIE ADENUGA TO PRESENT FROM THE RED CARPET
THE 2022 BIFA CEREMONY WILL TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY 4TH DECEMBER
The British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) today announced that Ben Bailey Smith will be hosting the 25th BIFA ceremony on Sunday 4 December.
Returning to Old Billingsgate, this year’s celebration of outstanding British film and top international features will be hosted by the multi-talented Ben Bailey Smith and marks BIFA’s 25th anniversary. On the red carpet this year is maverick presenter, cultural commentator and visionary influencer Julie Adenuga, who will be chatting to Ben pre-show and taking a peek behind the BIFA scenes before catching up with all the nominees, presenters and guests as they arrive. Ben said “Having this year starred in an indie short, funded another and written an indie feature, it’s great to be able to celebrate others who have taken independent work to the pinnacle. To be alongside them all as host for this year’s BIFA awards is a proud and exciting feeling.”
A man of many talents, actor, musician, author and writer Ben Bailey Smith started out in the underground rap scene as Doc Brown, forging a successful music career before branching out into acting, comedy and writing. Ben has appeared in numerous iconic TV series including Fleabag, The Inbetweeners, Law and Order and Abi Morgan’s The Split, and is a close collaborator of Ricky Gervais, starring in The Office spin off feature David Brent, Life on the Road and performing stand up alongside Ricky on tour. Ben also created and starred in BAFTA winning hit BBC children’s TV show Four O’Clock Club, co-wrote cult kid’s animation Strange Hill High and is the author of popular children’s books.
Recent film credits include roles in Lucasfilm/Disney’s Andor alongside Diego Luna and Carrie Cracknell’s Persuasion (2022) with Cosmo Jarvis and Dakota Johnson. Ben is currently working on his own feature film and is represented by United Agents and Epilogue in the UK.
Nominations were announced by Kosar Ali and Sam Claflin in November with Aftersun, Blue Jean, The Wonder, Living and Flux Gourmet leading this year’s BIFA contenders.
The first of the 2022 BIFA winners – victors in the ten craft categories – were announced on the 18th November.
