Lyra is an intimate journey through ‘post-conflict’ Northern Ireland, authored by journalist Lyra McKee, who was shot dead by the New IRA in April 2019 in Derry, Northern Ireland. Directed by her friend, documentarian Alison Millar, the film seeks answers to her senseless killing through Lyra’s own recordings and words. Born into a tough area that was ravaged by the conflict, Lyra was described as ‘a guiding light of hope in a changing, scarred society’. Her death sent shockwaves across all of Ireland: a ‘sharp puncture’ in the future of a country trying to move beyond its bloody past.
