Every year, Jacmel, a small seaside town in the south of Haiti, celebrates carnival. But this carnival couldn’t be further away from the floats, sequins and sound systems of carnivals found elsewhere in the Caribbean. Here, Jacmellians take to the streets in homemade costumes and props to reenact their history and honour their vodou spirits. This is a film about a town that takes the telling of history into their own hands, and is a celebration of rebellion and resistance.
