Back in Old Billingsgate once again after a covid hiatus which saw BIFA livestream the 2020 awards in February this year, Asim Chaudry will lead the annual celebration of the best and brightest independent British films and top international features, honouring the outstanding work of the 2021 BIFA nominees and winners. Alongside Asim, awards will be presented by a host of film talent, plus Capital Extra Breakfast Show and TV host Yinka Bokinni is back on the BIFA red carpet and is joined this year by host of Radio One’s Chillest Show & Power Down Playlist, Sian Eleri. Asim said “After a really tough couple of years for the British film industry and filmmakers everywhere, it’s fantastic to be able to mark these extraordinary achievements in person once again. I’m delighted to be hosting the BIFAs and am looking forward to celebrating with them all.”

Actor, musician, author and writer Asim Chaudhry recently reprised his award-winning role of Chabuddy G in the big-screen version of his hit BBC TV series People Just Do Nothing – Big In Japan and will next be seen in Will Sharpe’s upcoming The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Clare Foy; Shekhar Kapur’s romantic comedy What’s Love Got to Do With It with Lily James and Emma Thompson and as Abel in the highly anticipated new screen adaptation of Sandman alongside Sanjeev Bashkar’s Cain, which hits Netflix in 2022. 

In addition to co-creating and starring in five seasons of People Just Do Nothing, Asim’s credits for film and TV include Hoff the Record, a mockumentary series following an out of work David Hasselhoff, Chubby Funny (2016), Eaten By Lions (2018), Ben Wheatley’s Happy New Year Colin Burstead (2018), Black Mirror – Bandersnatch (2018) and 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984. Asim is represented by Curtis Brown Group in the UK and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher in the US.
